HIP is carried out in an elegant specially designed vessel, pressurized to 100Mpa by argon gas, at approximately the same temperature as conventional sintering.
Sintering is usually done first, followed by HIP to eliminate a small amount of residual voids that cannot be eliminated by normal sintering process. Of course, HIP can also be used to consolidate only prefired pressed embryos. Hot isostatic press is the most important key investment,As a follow-up process to sintering, it increases operational costs, energy and gas consumption and production time.
The hard alloy produced by HIP has the characteristics of fine grain and low content, so the strength is higher. However, no matter whether sintering hot isostatic pressing or post hot isostatic pressing is used, higher strength than hydrogen sintering and vacuum sintering products can be obtained only if the appropriate relationship between time, temperature and pressure is established.
